Jammu is de op één na grootste stad [ na Srinagar ] van de staat Jammu en Kasjmir en ligt op minder dan 50 kilometer van de grens met Pakistan. It is believed that the city was originally founded by Raja Jamboo Lochan who lived in fourteenth century B.C. The Raja had gone out one day for hunting when he happened to witness a tiger and a goat drinking water from one and the same pond. This extraordinary phenomenon set him thinking and he decided to build a city at this site so that the strong and weak could live together in peace and mutual tolerance. Eventually, he founded the city which came to be known as "Jamboo" after his own  name. With the passage of time and due to its frequent use the pronunciation of the name got slightly distorted and the city, came to be known as 'Jammu' as it is called now.  Kanpur  -  financiële en industriële hoofdstad van Uttar Pradesh  -  Stad Kanpur
one of the most populous cities in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Kanpur is located on the banks of the Ganga and is an important industrial centre.
Kanpur was a tinderbox in the independence and literary movements during the 1900-1950 period. The largest shopping centre is named Navin Market, after the poet Bal Krishna Sharma aka "Navin". Later poets included Gopal Das "Niraj" who also had a successful spell writing songs for "Bollywood" movies. Kanpur is also the birth place of Shyamlal Gupta `Parshad', composer of the famous ditty Vijayee Vishwa Tiranga Pyara . The propagation and popularization of Hindi also owes much to this city, with great Hindu literatteurs like Acharya Mahavir Parasad Dwivedi, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, Pratap Narain Mishra and Acharya Gaya Prasad Shukla `Sanehi'. The Agricultural University is named after the revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad and the Medical College after Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi; both men spent much time in Kanpur. While ChandraShekhar 'Azad' was born in a village in nearby district of Unnao and shot himself when surrounded by a huge posse of British soldiers at Alfred Park, Allahabad, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi was killed during the Hindu-Muslim riots of 1948 at Kanpur in Phoolbagh.
Kanpur is home to several most prestigious educational institutions of the country, including one of the Indian Institutes of Technology,CSJM University, Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI), University Institute of Engineering and Technology and GSVM Medical College.

 Shimla  -  hoofdstad Himachel Pradesh  -  koningin van de Hill Stations
Shimla had in de koloniale tijd de rol van zomerhoofdstad van Brits-Indië. De stad ligt in de zuidelijke uitlopers van het Himalayagebergte, de Siwaliks. Het is een populaire toeristische bestemming voor zowel Indiase als buitenlandse toeristen. Shimla ligt verspreid over een langgerekte bergtop op zo'n 2000 m hoogte. De omringende hellingen zijn begroeid met altijdgroen dennenbos. Shimla is het eindstation van de Kalka Shimla Railway, een smalspoorlijntje dat in de koloniale tijd is aangelegd.  Srinagar  -  zomerhoofdstad van Jammu en Kashmir
De stad ligt in de vallei van Kasjmir, aan beide oever van de rivier de Jhelum, een zijrivier van de Indus. De stad is beroemd om zijn meren, waarop zich veel woonboten bevinden. De stad is gelegen op een hoogte van 1730 meter en biedt dus goede gelegenheid om aan de verschrikkelijke zomerhitte van de Gangesvlakte te ontsnappen. De Mughalkeizers waardeerden de stad hierom zeer. Vlak buiten de stad bevinden zich de prachtige Shalimartuinen, die in 1619 werden aangelegd door de Mughalkeizer Jahangir. Zie District Srinagar.

 Naina Devi [ district Bilaspur, deelstaat Himachal Pradesh ]

Indiaas ski resort en summer hill resort. Het skioord Gulmarg [ 2700 m. hoogte in de Himalaya ] ligt in het noorden van India, in de provincie Kashmir, een kilometer of vijftig van de stad Srinigar. 'Gulmarg' betekent bloemenweide. In de lente en zomer staan de bergweides vol met wilde bloemen. Op heldere dagen zie je de ver weg gelegen Nanga Parbat.
Gulmarg heeft de hoogst gelegen golfbaan ter wereld, je kunt er heliskiën, en ook 'gewoon' omhoog gaan met de hoogst gelegen gondelbaan ter wereld.

One of the premier institution of India with a very rich collection of Gandharan sculptures, Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings. Before the partition in 1947, the collection of art objects, paintings, sculptures and decorative arts, were housed in the Central Museum, Lahore the then capital of Punjab.
 Nek Chand Foundation
Nek Chand, a humble transport official in the north Indian city of Chandigarh, began to clear a little patch of jungle to make himself a small garden area. He set stones around the little clearing and before long had sculpted a few figures recycled from materials he found at hand.
