Lewes, the county town of Sussex is a mixture of the impressive, the unusual and the intriguing. After the
Norman invasion of 1066, most of Sussex was given to William de Warenne, to rule over the South Saxons.
His base was Lewes, which he settled and fortified by building an impressive Castle and establishing a Priory
dedicated to St Pancras. A building of wealth and splendour said to rival Westminster Abbey, it was set to become one of the most important Cluniac priories in Europe.

as the Royal Aircraft Establishment Orchestral Society, it has a long history of performing in the local area and currently presents four concerts each season.
