Flotillatochten in de Caribbean gaan van Martinique via St. Lucia naar St. Vincent en de Grenadines. De eerste drie zijn vulkaaneilanden met palmstranden, regenwouden, dorpjes en stadjes. De Grenadines zijn bounty-eilanden en vaak niet meer dan met palmbomen begroeide zandbanken of uit de kluiten gewassen rotsklompen.



 Hollands Glorie  -  Caribbean & Grenadines
De 'Zuidroute': start in de Baie de Flamandes van Fort de France op Martinique, het 'bloemeneiland'. Nadat u kennis heeft gemaakt met het schip en de andere opvarenden wendt het schip de volgende morgen de steven naar het eiland St. Lucia. In de idyllische Marigot Bay gaat de 'Passaat' voor anker. Het volgende reisdoel is Soufrière met een 'drive-in' vulkaan als attractie, waar u zicht heeft op één van de opmerkelijkste natuurverschijnselen van dit gebied: de tweelingbergen Grand Piton en Petit Piton. Het volgende eiland is St. Vincent waar u de markt van Kingstown bezoekt, de hoofdstad van dit eiland, en de Grenadinen. Hiervandaan wordt koers gezet richting Mustique, waar verschillende beroemdheden een huis hebben. Het volgende eiland dat u aandoet heet Mayreau, waar u geniet van een local diner in het restaurant Dennis's Hideaway. Hierna volgt het hoogtepunt van de reis: de Tobago Cays, een verzameling kleine eilanden met prachtige witte stranden. Een snorkel- en duikparadijs met vele exotische vissen. Deze archipel staat bekend als het mooiste zeil- en snorkelgebied in de Caribbean. Vervolgens zeilt u naar Union Island waar u voor anker gaat in Clifton Bay. U kunt hier van boord stappen en een bezoek brengen aan het eiland.
De 'Noordroute': vanuit Union Island gaat de Noordroute van start. U maakt de eerste dag een zeilzwerftocht langs een aantal ongerepte tropische eilanden, meestal via Palm Island naar de Tobago Cays. Rondom deze beroemde Tobago Cays, een groepje onbewoonde eilanden omringd door schitterend koraal, vindt u een adembenemend onderwaterparadijs met prachtig gekleurde tropische vissen. Op één van de mooiste eilanden, Bequia, kunt u wandelingen maken door de schitterende natuur. Vervolgens bezoekt u St. Vincent. Via Cumberland Bay zeilen we naar Marigot Bay bij St. Lucia. In Rodney Bay eindigt tenslotte uw 13 -daagse reis. Indien u de 7-daagse reis boekt, zeilt u verder naar Martinique waar u arriveert in de 'Baie de Flamandes' van Fort de France waar uw zeiltocht door dit aardse paradijs

St. Vincent is exotisch en nog vrijwel ongerept. Het eiland staat in toeristisch opzicht nog in de kinderschoenen. De stranden zijn rustig en vaak betoverd mooi.

The diving in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is relatively unknown, yet the islands' reefs offer a diversity and density of life and underwater terrain found no place else in the Caribbean.
Untouched by hurricane winds or the fins of ten thousand novice divers, St. Vincent offers fields of pencil corals, brain corals the size of cars, star corals stacked one upon the next. Dense black coral forests and meadows of giant sea plumes welcome divers to explore. Reefs are healthy and alive, not dead algae-covered remnants as in the not so fortunate areas of the Caribbean.

De watervallen vormen de grootste attractie van het eiland. Van veertig meter hoogte stort het water zich naar beneden in een door de rotsen gevormd waterbekken waarin gezwommen kan worden.

Geschiedenis van St. Vincent & The Grenadines

Known by the Caribs as Hairoun ("Land of the Blessed"), St. Vincent was first inhabited by the Ciboney, a grouping of Meso-Indians. The economy of these hunter-gatherers depended heavily on marine resources as well as the land. They used basic tools and weapons and built rock shelters and semi permanent villages.

Carib Indians aggressively prevented European settlement on St. Vincent until the 18th century. African slaves, whether shipwrecked or escaped from St. Lucia or Grenada and seeking refuge in St. Vincent, intermarried with the Caribs and became known as "black Caribs".
